I have a Sony w55. I dont want another camera, I take about 10 pictures a year. I suggest whatever camera suits your needs. If its' just for random pictures, any simple point and shoot camera, they are all basically the same now-a-days.

I recommend against Kodak. Honestly, the lens is plastic in a large portion of their cameras, and their software is atrocious. (Don't get me started on their customer service. Canadian retailers have actually stopped carrying them due to the fact they are not accepting most of our repairs that are even under warranty.)
The camera Jason mentioned (Sony DSC W55) is a fairly good choice that isn't too hard on the wallet, and comes in a few colours as well, so it can suit your aesthetic needs too. The only thing I don't like about the camera is the need to use the proprietary (read: Expensive) Memory Sticks for media. You can get the equivalent sized memory card in SD format for around half the cost.
Nikon is great, too, but I find that the flash on their compacts is unbearable. The wait time between photo taking is horrible due to the fact you cannot take another shot until the flash is ready. If it were an SLR you were looking for, then Nikon would be one of my recommendations.
Which puts my main recommendation as a Canon camera. If you'd like something that has a decent zoom, and some great features, I'd say go for the Canon Powershot A720 I.S.

I've never seen a plastic lensed Kodak digital camera in my life and I work for them. =/ Kodak Easyshare software is far too dominating, for my liking, and I'd probably go without installing it, if I was to get a Kodak camera (but it does do everything for you, if you don't know what to do).
-------------------------------------
As for Sheila's questions:
What kind of Digital Camera do YOU have?
I have a VERY outdated Canon Powershot A80 that I got, probably about 5-6 years ago. At the moment I'm using film and have three Canon manual SLRs (exEE, A-1, T60).
What kind do you want?
Whatever replaces the Nikon d80 dSLR. (My reasoning behind this and not one of the other Nikon dSLRs that have surpassed the d80 in specs is that the d80 still has the servomotor compatibility with Nikon film SLR autofocus lenses.)
Do you like your current camera?
Sort of went off photography this year.
What brand would you recommend?
Canon, Casio, Ricoh, Panasonic and Olympus.
I need ideas so please help me?
I wouldn't recommend going for a camera that doesn't have a lens that extends outward. It lowers the quality of image and unless it's offering a perk that is worth the sacrifice then I wouldn't do it. The only cameras of that kind, that I've seen, where it's worth the sacrifice is the Olympus range of all-weather, shock/crushproof, underwater cameras. That being said, it's only if you want to be able to take your camera swimming, in a monsoon or are prone to dropping things that you should need one like that.
I agree with Apocalypse that Nikon are a brilliant dSLR maker. What I hate about their compacts isn't their flash but the LCD lag when focusing (for all the ones I've used).
------------------------------
Before I recommend a camera I have questions to ask you:
What are you looking for in a camera?
What are you mainly going to use the camera for (going on holiday, general social photos, etc.)?
Is size an issue?
What is your budget?
Do you already have accessories (memory cards, batteries, card readers) from a previous digital camera and would like to utilise them if possible/if it affects costs?

Sony Cybershot.
I hate it. The battery casing is broken too, so I have to hold it shut when I take pictures.
I want a Canon EOS 40D.

Nikon point and shoots do suck.
I have this:

I love it, I'd recommend it.
And always try to buy open box (but take someone who knows cameras with you so that they can tell you if it's still in good quality).

It's also compatible with Nikon film SLR manual lenses, but you lose a lot of the extra auto features of the camera, such as light metering. Yay for being even more film user friendly!

I want the skinnier version of that.

I really prefer the larger one. When I tried the other (can't remember what model), it felt too fragile. This one is durable enough for me. I've banged it up already and it still works like a champ.

Yeah. I tend to be really careful with my cameras though so it would work out nicely.
