lately, I've been listening to a lot of :wumpscut: and combichrist.

If you've ever heard either, they're not very easy to listen to. Regardless, I've taken a liking to them. I don't know why.

Industrial is basically heavy techno.

You obviously have no idea about Mushroomhead then. Go through their music, it's a blend between industrial music, alternative rock and heavy metal.

I'm somewhat familiar with mushroomhead. I always thought of them being more along the lines of Static X and a little like Slipknot.

they're nu metal with synths. Industrial metal is more or less a bullshit genre, there are maybe five bands total that fit in that catagory.

back on track, I can stand wumpscut and combichrist but most stuff like that bores me. I prefer Synth Rock and Synth pop

Nu metal with synths ... what would you call it? That's like saying, "The Mahavishnu Orchestra is not jazz-fusion but jazz combined with progressive rock". Industrial music is somewhat blending rock/metal with electronic music. For the derivative to be industrial metal or industrial rock, the elements of music being mixed with eletronic music is to be referred to.

Static-X is industrial metal/rock.

Technically when someone says Industrial, it's just Industrial, and nothing added.
This isn't like someone saying metal, and having it include all metal genres.

At least to me, when someone says industrial, we're thinking of puscifer, skinny puppy, and I guess NIN wouldn't fall under that, but you get my point.

I would call Nu Metal with synths Nu Metal. Just like I would call anything in a specific genre that just throws in one extra instrument or element that same genre. The Lords of the new church are a punk band that uses a saxaphone but that doesn't make them a blend of punk and jazz. Bella Morte, Dead or alive, and Sammel use synths but that doesn't make them industrial now does it? They're three completely different bands in three different genres of music. It takes more than a single element to make a band part of a certain genre. Otherwise every rock band that threw guitar distortions into their music would be metal.

and as for a few more "Industrial" bands that I don't mind:
Suicide Commando
Front Line Assembly
God Module
