-- Updated/Reinstalled the driver.
'Your iPod has to be reformatted for use with Windows'.
.* Restoring iPod.
[Newer version of iPod software is available - Updating].
-- iTunes appears to freeze during restore.
.* Closed iTunes.
-- Restore stopped.
.* Uninstall/Reinstall iTunes. Quicktime, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Updates.
-- Successful.
.* Changed the iPod drive letter.
-- Drive letter was successfully changed to [Y].
.* Restarting computer.
.* Opened the iTunes.
-- ComnAti.dll was not found. Application failed to open.
.* Closed itunes and reopened it.
-- iTunes opened.
.* Customer wasn't able to eject the iPod from the computer.
-- Reset the iPod and ejected it.
.* Connected to a new port in the back.
-- iPod said synchronizing and connected on the screen, but didn't appear in iTunes.
.* Created a new user account.
-- User account successfully created.
.* Trying to restore in this account.
-- iPod wasn't be recognized in iTunes.
.* Placed iPod into disk mode.
-- iPod isn't being recognized.
.* Logged back into old account.
.* Formatting ipod.
-- My Computer > iPod's name > Format.
[No change].
.* Restarted the iPod service.
-- No change.
.* Emptied the temp directory.
-- No change.
.* Msconfig.
-- Restarted computer.
iPod still isn't being recognized in iTunes.
Customer has access to a different computer.
.* Connected the iPod to a new computer.
-- iPod is recognized in My Computer.
.* Checked Usb root hub power settings since customer is using a laptop.
-- Hub is self powered.
iPod isn't being recognized in this iTunes, but is on the computer.
Windows opened a âScan and Fixâ option.
-- Selected 'Scan and Fix'.
*Nothing appeared to happen.
.* Reset the iPod.
-- iPod says that it's connected.
'iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You will have to restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes'.
-- Looks as though the iPod is restoring and starts to slow down halfway.
* iPod has been restored to factory settings.
.* iPod says that it's synchronizing.
-- No startup screen yet.
.* Ejected the iPod.
.* Checked to see if the iPod was restored.
-- Yes.
.* Reconnected iPod.
-- Set up your new iPod screen.
.* Synchronizing iPod.
-- Sync is complete. Ok to disconnect.
When the customer went to look to see if the songs were on there, there was nothing.
.* Connected the iPod back into the computer.
-- iPod is being recognized.
.* Placed the iPod into Manually Manage.
-- Drag and dropped the contents onto the iPods name.
.* When dragging the songs over, it had a circle with the line through it.
-- Asked customer if any songs had â!â beside them: Yes.
.* Got customer to drag and drop the songs without exclamation points.
-- Songs added.
.* Went back to the original computer.
.* Connected the iPod to the other computer.
-- iPod was recognized and not freezing.
Issue resolved.

I had the same issues with my iPod when I first got it.
Figured it out in about 5 minutes though.
It really isn't that complicated. You just need to sit there, read, and follow instructions closely.
I hate having to reset mine when it freezes up though. You gotta press and hold so much crap just to reboot it.

I've had three iPods and none of them have ever acted up :x I don't get how others have such problems.
