If you look at it at the rich person prospective though..
They have lots and lots of money. The equivalent of $2 to them is $200.
They love someone, they want to make that person happy. They spend $2000 on them (so the equivalent of $20)
I suppose there's a fine line between buying love and loving to make someone happy. The person buying the present needs to be secure in knowing that the person loves them already, for who they are, not how deep their pockets are.

Either way, still personality over money.
